Although the name of this event implies that it’s only a week long, it’s really two weeks, running from November 3-16. This is all the better because it provides Hudson Valley residents with a special reason to visit some of their favorite restaurants, as well as others they might not have tried yet. Local chefs will treat you to prix-fixe, three-course lunches and dinners at special prices to commemorate these two special weeks, while placing an emphasis on local products for the prix-fixe menus. With nearly 200 of the Hudson Valley’s restaurants participating in this annual event, this is a perfect time to support local eateries and have your choice of many cuisines.
For both weeks, I’ll randomly select two restaurants a day from Monday to Saturday and alternate between counties from day to day. I will then post links to these restaurants’ websites on Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty’s Facebook and Twitter pages so you can learn more about them and get an idea of the kind of dishes they serve.
I’ve only been to a few of the restaurants participating in this event, so I’ll provide you with what I know about what some of the Hudson Valley’s best kitchens can offer.
If you’re looking for a meal that will let you take in the grandness of the Hudson River, I give the highest of recommendations to two places. The first is the Hudson Water Club in West Haverstraw, where I suggest their Black Angus burger or pan-seared crab cakes. The second is Pier 701 in Piermont, and although I’ve only been there once, their penne ala vodka is some of the best in Rockland.
If you desire a meal that’s quiet and more intimate, I suggest Restaurant X in Congers or Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Tarrytown. If you choose the former, you must try the veal hanger steak. If you visit the latter, you should definitely order the New York strip steak.
Given the amount of restaurants you can choose from, you’re destined to find one that you will love. It might even be a fun idea to try a different cuisine each week during this event because of the Hudson Valley’s very respectable variety of dishes.
